National Asset Management Framework for Australia

Our clients are busy updating their Asset Management Plans at present. Improved asset management planning always provokes thoughts about underlying frameworks and robust systems – the foundation layer which provides the bases for overarching knowledge and planning.
I’m often exposed to asset registers which have been built with the intent of good asset management practice but maintained with less intent. Sound asset knowledge and planning is forthcoming when data has been maintained over a long period of time in a consistent way.
National best practice guidelines provide a good source to implementing Asset Management Systems and maintaining them in a way which will provide better asset planning. With this in mind it’s encouraging to read about Prime Minster, Kevin Rudd considering a fund to help councils improve their asset management and financial plans – refer article 4 http://www.lgcentre.com.au/lgnews/newsletter.php?issue=364&key=592#10657
The NAMS.PLUS project has also been established in Australia to assist councils in writing Asset Management Plans.
Improved and consistent asset data for better planning!
Cheers
Nige

The Aging Workforce and change it can bring

We do a lot of work in councils and different utility’s and the aging workforce is a hot topic these days. As the baby boomers are starting to retire, buy a caravan and spend their kids inheritance, it's leaving many holes in the knowledge base that many places rely so heavily on. The good news (well not that good really, but it’s something) is that everyone is in the same situation. I try to keep up with the information out there which affects the industry that we work in, I came across this article recently which discusses the topic of the aging work force and it’s affect on the workplace and the changes that it will cause. The interesting thing is that it also raises something that I’ve discussed with Nige a number of times which is the affect that we think it ‘should’ have on the systems that are in place and used within councils and utilities.

New Plymouth District Council goes live with Adapt Task Management System

New Plymouth District Council is our first software client to go-live with the Adapt Task Management System (ATMS). Fortunately, it's been one of the smoothest projects that Nige and I have been involved in with very little fuss and fanfare.

Christian and I were on site to make sure that it all went well and did the software install during the evening when everyone was off the production servers. We walked out of the building pretty happy that the install went smoothly, but we both knew that was just the start. Tomorrow when the users hit the deck is when things really get put to the test.....
